Bluefin Championship Saturday 03/08/19 BALLINAMALLARD 0 - 1 KNOCKBREDA Breda were handed a very difficult opening League game away to last season's beaten Irish Cup finalists. The home team opened well with their passing game using the full width of the pitch. However Breda were compact and disciplined causing occasional passing errors enabling them to launch counter attacks. From one on 12 minutes centre forward , Alex Pomeroy, was played in by Brendan Bennett with the shot being deflected. From the resultant corner defender Dylan Whiteway headed just past. Breda were forced to make a change on 30 minutes when Daniel Culbert received a nasty facial injury from an opponent's elbow in an aerial challenge, being replaced in midfield by Fra Rice. Breda again nearly scored from a corner on 35 minutes with a shot by defender Philip Simpson was blocked. 3 minutes later Pomeroy almost scored the opener when played in . unlukily his shot from just inside the box hit a post. On 43 minutes Bennett played a ball over the top to Anto Burns who spotted the home keeper advancing but his lobbed effort was just wide. After the break the home team continued to have more possession with Breda happy to maintain their shape and frustrate attacks. It was Breda who took the lead on 55 minutes when a cross to the back post saw Bennett rise to send a looping header against the bar with Anto Burns first to react to the ball dropping on the 6 yard line to fire high into the net. Breda continued to defend resolutely after this restricting the home team's chances and taking all 3 points. Too many excellent performances to single out any one player so very well done to all players and staff. Mention also about Daniel Culbert whose injury required a hospital attendance and stitches to two cuts around his eye. Daniel says all is not too bad.Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery Daniel. Next up for Breda a home League game v Dundela on Tuesday 06/08/19 , at Breda Park , kick off 7pm.
Bluefin Championship Tuesday 06/08/19 KNOCKBREDA 0 - 2 DUNDELA Following a great opening day away win , a touch of reality for Breda who succumbed to an opening home League defeat. The visitors took the lead on 22 minutes from a penalty given under new rules introduced this season. On this evidence all teams in the League will need to practice for quite a few penalties! The visitors sealed the win on 86 minutes with a goal from Breda old boy Tiernan McNicholl. Next up for Breda an away MacLeans League Cup game away to Ballyclare Comrades on Saturday 10/08/19 kick off 3pm.
Bet McLean League Cup Saturday 10/08/19 Ballyclare Comrades 7 - 1 Knockbreda Nothing to be said other than very well done Ballyclare and good luck for the next Round when you will no doubt face a tougher game !!.
Bluefin Championship Saturday 24/08/19 KNOCKBREDA 0 - 1 ARDS Another home defeat for Breda in a game of very few chances , with Breda putting up a solid defensive display. The game was decided on 86 minutes following a very contentious refereeing decision. The resultant freekick , 25 yards out , was hit directly into the net. Next up for Breda an away League game at Newry City on Saturday 31/08/19 , kick off 3pm.
Bluefin Championship Saturday 17/08/19 KNOCKBREDA 0 - 5 PORTADOWN Breda started this game well in the opening 20 minutes with Alex Pomeroy and Brendan Bennett forcing saves from the visiting keeper. They should have scored on 18 minutes when Anto Burns was alone 6 yards from goal but headed just past the post. The visitors were a real threat and took the lead on 23 minutes when Breda switched off following a short corner , with a cross headed powerfully in. The visitors scored again on 33 minutes and in the second half scored 3 more to complete Breda's misery.
Bluefin Championship Tuesday 13/08/19 Queens 3 - 2 Knockbreda Queens took an early lead in this game with Breda equalising on 8 minutes with a back post tap in by Darius Roohi. Breda went ahead on 57 minutes when a through ball saw Alex Pomeroy clear , driving low into the net from 18 yards. Breda missed chances to extend their lead with the hosts drawing level with an unfortunate og. Having had a player sent off in unclear circumstances , Breda fell to a winning Queens goal on 83 minutes.
Bluefin Championship Saturday 31/08/19 Newry City 2 - 2 KNOCKBREDA Breda were put under pressure throughout the first half by the home team's use of both flanks and relied on counter attack. A great save by Breda debutant keeper Conan Russell , who was solid throughout, ensured a goalless first half. The second half continued in the same vein although Breda gradually got a foothold in the game and great work by forward , Alex Pomeroy , on 66 minutes saw him turn , fight off a defender and surge into the box, being brought down. The subsequent penalty was coolly despatched by David Fearon. Buoyed by this Conall Laverty played Pomeroy into the box on 71 minutes with Alex again too strong for his marker and firing into the corner of the net to increase Breda's lead. The home team continued to press with Dangerous balls into the box pulling a scrambled goal back on 75 minutes with a similar goal on 83 minutes to equalise. Breda then survived a few nervy moments to take a share of the points. Next up for Breda a home League game v Harland & Wolff Welders at Breda Park on Saturday 07/09/19 , kick off 3pm.
Toals County Antrim Shield - Round 1 Tuesday 10/09/19 CLIFTONVILLE 4 - 0 KNOCKBREDA Breda's interest in this year's Shield , perhaps not surprisingly , came to an end on a wet , blustery night at Solitude. Breda almost went ahead on 3 minutes when Alex Pomeroy's snap shot from 18 yards was well saved. The home team had the lion's share of possession with Breda's front two increasingly isolated. Two goals in the first half made life even more difficult for Breda with 2 more rather unfortunate goals added in the 2nd half. Good luck to The Reds in the next round and good to see a few of the U20s squad involved tonight. Also a big thanks to Damien Delaney for providing us photos he took of this game and the Welders one as well. Next up for Breda an away League game v PSNI on Saturday 14/09/19 kick off 3PM. Please note this game will be played at The Dub, Queens University playing fields..
Bluefin Championship Saturday 07/09/19 KNOCKBREDA 2 - 2 H&W WELDERS Three goals in the opening half hour saw Breda go in at half time with a 2-1 lead. They went ahead on 12 miminutes when centre forward , Alex Pomeroy outmuscled his marker before firing low into the net from 20 yards. The lead did not last long as the visitors centre forward headed in from 10 yards on 18 minutes.Breda's lead was restored on 28 minutes direct from a great freekick from David Fearon , over the wall from 25 yards and into the top corner. Breda keeper Conan Russell made a fantastic save 5 minutes after the interval to maintain the lead but , as with the visitor's first goal , poor marking in their box saw Breda concede again with another finely taken goal.
Bluefin Championship Saturday 14/09/19 PSNI 3 - 2 KNOCKBREDA This was a big game for Breda who gave themselves a mountain to climb when conceding 2 headed goals in the opening 12 minutes due to failing to defend crosses into their box. Breda then came into the game and on 20 minutes an effort by Darius Roohi from 6 yards appeared to be clawed back by the home keeper from well behind the goal line but no goal was given. Breda continued to create chances and it was no surprise when a gaol was pulled back in first half stoppage time. Lee McGreevy got free in the box following a good passing move and his pinpoint cross found Alex Pomeroy whose diving header found the bottom corner. In the 2nd half Breda continued to press and create chances. It was no surprise that they drew level on 64 minutes when a long throw was headed on by Pomeroy with Brendan Bennett lashing the ball high into the net. Unfortunately Breda surrendered another goal shortly after that with a rash midfield challenge bringing a free kick to the home side some 35 yards from goal. A looping shot direct from that somehow ended up high in the Breda net past the despairing attempt of Conan Russell in Breda's goal to stop it. Breda responded well to this further setback and dominated the game from there creating several chances which they were unable to take. Next up for Breda an away League game v Ballyclare Comrades at Dixon Park , Ballyclare on Saturday 21/09/19, kick off 3pm.
Bluefin Championship Saturday 21/09/19 BALLYCLARE COMRADES 4 - 0 KNOCKBREDA Breda once again caused themselves problems in failing to clear a home corner on 3 minutes with a halfhit shot from 10 yards ending up in their net. The remainder of the first half was fairly even with Breda having chances to equalise . The best chance came on 12 minutes when a mistake by a home defender saw Breda's Brendan Bennett pounce , taking the ball into the box , but with only the keeper to beat , shot too close to him, enabling the ball to be palmed away. The game was effectively over within 5 minutes of the restart with Breda allowing home attackers too much space and puinshed with goals on 47 and 49 minutes. The home team added a 4th goal on 57 minutes. Next up for Breda is a home League game v Loughgall at Breda Park on Saturday 28/09/19 kick off 3pm.
Bluefin Championship Saturday 28/09/19 Knockbreda 1 - Loughgall 2 Breda got off to a reasonable start but after 5 minutes conceded a penalty for a foul in their box. Keeper Lee Windrum however made a brilliant double save and this gave Breda heart and following a fine passing move on 25 minutes , took the lead with centre forward Alex Pomeroy firing low into the net from 15 yards. Breda held the lead , despite away team pressure , until added on time , when a further penalty was awarded and scored, with a further deflected shot deep into a lot of added on time , taking all 3 points for the visitors. Next up for Breda an away League game v Dergview on Saturday 05/10/19 , kick off 3pm.
