IRISH CUP 5th Round Sat 4th January 2020 KNOCKBREDA 3 - 2 DERGVIEW (after extra time) A very competitive and good game of football saw Breda deservedly progress to the next round. Breda started well creating early chances and dominating the game but went behind on 30 minutes with a free header from a corner deflected on the goal line into the net. Breda determination and team spirit saw them respond by equalising 3 minutes later when Anto Burns turned and fired low into the net from 15 yards. In the 2nd half play was held up for several minutes due to an injury to Breda's Eddie Shaw. On 70 minutes Breda went ahead when Burns fired in from 6 yards with the visitors responding on 80 minutes with a well worked goal. 10 minutes into extra time Breda's debut defender , Josh Connery, headed in the winner from a corner. Bluefin Championship Saturday 11/01/20 QUB 4 - 0 KNOCKBREDA In blustery conditions Breda's early , steady start , was rattled by a home goal on 12 minutes, when a low cross from wide was tapped in at the far post. Breda did however remain in the contest with a 20 yard effort from Conall Delaney testing the home keeper. However Breda went further behind on 38 minutes with a very poor defensive mistake which saw the home team go in 2 up at the break. On 49 minutes Breda's defence seemed to switch off thinking the ball had gone out of play and that enabled the visitors to go further in front. A 4th goal was added on 82 minutes. Next up for Breda a home League game 18TH Jan , at Breda Park , v H&W Welders , kick off 2pm.
Bluefin Championship Saturday 18/01/20 KNOCKBREDA 2 - 6 H&W WELDERS Our reporter was unable to be at this game which seems to have been a very eventful affair. Breda went 2 goals up very early on through Jonathan Smith & Jake McNeill with the visitors pulling one back before the break. The 2nd half saw the visitors take a 3-2 lead before scoring a further 3 goals in the final 10 minutes. Next up for Breda an away League game v Loughgall on Saturday 25/01/20 , kick off 2pm.
Bluefin Championship Saturday 28/01/20 LOUGHGALL 4 - 0 KNOCKBREDA Breda played well in the first half of this game and should have gone ahead on 19 minutes when Jonathan Smith was played in but shot just past the post. 5 minutes later Breda fell behind to an avoidable opening goal and on 32 minutes a long headed clearance was not dealt with by Breda leading to a further goal. Breda's misery was compounded with further goals on 63 and 65 minutes. Next up for Breda a home Irish Cup 6th round tie v Ballinamallard Utd,1/2/20 20 at Breda Park kick off 1.30pm.
Irish Cup 6th round Saturday 01/02/20 KNOCKBREDA 2 - BALLINAMALLARD 5 Breda bowed out of this season's main cup competition having given a spirited performance against last season's beaten finalists. After an even opening 15 minutes a defensive lapse by Breda allowed the visiting forward in on goal with keeper Jack Hazard beaten with a low shot from 12 yards but almost pulling off a fine save. Breda had one or two half chances before the break with the visitors always dangerous going forward. Breda went 2 down on 57 minutes with a headed goal from a cross but pulled one back on 63 minutes when a fine run and shot by Brendan Bennett found the net with the help of a deflection. Breda went further behind on 78 and 80 minutes but pulled a well worked goal back on 85 minutes from substitute Darren Smith. The visitors concluded the scoring right at the end with the goal of the game.
Bluefin Championship Tuesday 04/02/20 NEWRY CITY 3 - 1 KNOCKBREDA Breda gave a debut to Reserves keeper Jonah Magill and although the game did not end well for him , the big man put on an excellent performance. Breda conceded an early goal on 5 minutes when a low cross was hit in from 6 yards. Breda grew back into the game and deservedly drew level on 35 minutes following a free kick into the box , the ball falling to Peter McDermott to tap in from close. The home team went ahead again on 61 minutes with another low cross being converted and sealed all 3 points deep into added time.
Saturday 08/02/20 PORTADOWN 4 - 0 KNOCKBREDA The home team opened the scoring through Adam Salley after a quarter-of-an-hour the centre forward getting past a defender to drill a low shot beyond keeper Daniel Oates making his first team debut. The Ports doubled their advantage four minutes later through Lee Bonis after he showed great pace to race onto a Christopher Crane to get past Oates and touch the ball home from an acute angle. After striking the woodwork before the break Portadown added to their lead three minutes into the second half with Salley's second of the game after Bonis had delivered a ball over the top. The scoring was completed six minutes from time when unfortunate Knockbreda defender Carl McConville turned the ball into his own net whilst attempting to clear Salley's cross under pressure from Bonis. Next up for Breda a home League game v Ballinamallard Utd, 15/2/20 at Breda Park , kick off 3pm.
