BLUEFIN CHAMPIONSHIP Saturday 06/10/18 KNOCKBREDA 2 - 2 PORTADOWN On the back of recent good results , both teams started well with the home team unlucky not to take the lead on 14 minutes when a Ryan Newberry corner hit a post with the ball played back to the same player whose shot hit the other post. It was the visitors however who went ahead 2 minutes later when a ball was played into their box and good movement from Darren Murray saw him clear and coolly chipping the ball over Breda keeper Dean Smyth from 10 yards. Undeterred Breda continued to create chances but went in 1.0 down at the break. On 53 minutes Breda's Brendan Bennett was through on goal when brought down on the edge of the visitor's box by Greg Hall who was shown a straight red card. Newberry took the free kick and his low left foot shot flew into the corner of the net. The visitors regarded the lead on 60 minutes when a corner was met by Adam McCallum whose bullet header gave Breda's keeper no chance. With the man advantage Breda continued to press and quickly drew level again on 62 minutes when a great crossfield pass from Jordan Baker found Bennett in space. He took a touch and fired low into the net from 18 yards. Breda could not get the winner but as he did earlier in the game , Breda keeper Dean Smyth made great saves to ensure Breda took a point. Next up for Breda a home League game v H&W Welders on Saturday 13/10/18 kick off 3pm at Breda Park.
Championship Saturday 13/10/18 KNOCKBREDA 1 - 2 H&W WELDERS At a very wet Breda Park the early exchanges were fairly even with Breda's Ryan Newberry coming close on 7 minutes with a great effort from 25 yards which flew just over the bar. The visitors gradually gained control in midfield and it was no surprise when they took the lead on 23 minutes. Having gained possession in Breda's half good passing saw a great cross from the right flank met by Luckas Gwiazda whose header at the back post , from 6 yards , gave Breda keeper Smyth no chance. 2 minutes later Breda's Zach Barr had his header well saved and the Welders increased their lead on 28 minutes when Chris Morrow fired in from close range after a block by Breda's keeper fell to him. Breda made 2 changes at halftime and started to come into the game more and scored on 74 minutes when a cross from defender Mark Drysdale was met at the back post by centre forward David Fearon with a fine header back across goal and over the keeper. This set up a period of sustained Breda pressure with the visitors holding on to take all 3 points. No game for Breda next Saturday ( 20/10/17) due to Junior Internationals. Next up for Breda will be a home League game v Dergview on Saturday 27/10/18 at Breda Park kickoff 3pm.
BLUEFIN CHAMPIONSHIP Saturday 27/10/18 KNOCKBREDA 5 - 3 DERGVIEW Defences did not prevail at Breda Park with 3 goals in the opening quarter. The visitors went ahead on 5 minutes when a through ball found Philip Wallace who rounded the advancing Dean Smyth, Breda's keeper and fired into the empty net. Having come close with a Ryan Newberry free kick , Breda did equalise on 13 minutes with a similar goal , with Brendan Bennett beating the keeper to the ball and firing in from close range. The visitors again took the lead on 23 minutes with a well taken goal by Paul Smith who received the ball in the box and hit an early first time shot just inside the post from 12 yards. The end to end action continued with Breda's David Fearon brought down in the box and Newberry's penalty well saved by the keeper who also saved the rebound effort. That however led to a corner with Fearon heading in another leveller. The same player gave Breda the lead on the stroke of halftime when he broke clear and shot low past the keeper. It was unlikely that would be the end of the scoring and 2 minutes into the 2nd half the visitors were level with an unfortunate headed og by Mark Drysdale in attempting to clear. Chances continued to be made and missed by both sides with Breda again taking the lead on 84 minutes with the goal of the game. The ball was laid back to substitute Matty Johnston who hit an unstoppable shot from 20 yards into the top corner. With the visitors pushing for another goal , Breda sealed the game in added time when Bennett broke away from his own half, rounded the keeper and fired in. Next up for Breda an away League game v Larne at Inver Park Sat 3rd Nov kickoff 3pm.
Bluefin Championship Saturday 03/11/18 LARNE 2 - 0 KNOCKBREDA Breda travelled to Larne to take on the unbeaten league leaders and put up a very determined and disciplined display against a very good home team who , as expected , dominated possession. Unfortunately an early , somewhat fortunate goal was conceded on 3 minutes when, following a corner and an initial shot blocked , a scuffed shot from 15 yards found the net. The game then settled down but Breda conceded again on 24 minutes when a good move down their left saw a good finish from inside their box. To their credit Breda dug in and came into the game more in the second half which was scoreless. Next up for Breda an away league game v Loughgall on Saturday 10/11/18 kick off 2pm.
Bluefin Championship Saturday 17/11/18 KNOCKBREDA 3 - 2 BALLYCLARE COMRADES Breda started well and scored on 6 minutes when Zach Barr played a through ball to his strike partner David Fearon who coolly sidefooted into the net from 12 yards past the advancing keeper. Barr was not to play much further part as he was red carded on 20 minutes for a tackle. The home team's ten men however extended their lead 2 minutes later when Fearon was fouled in the box with the big man himself thundering in the spot kick for his second goal. This gave Breda some breathing space but just on halftime Comrades scored when Gary Browne was played in and coolly finished from just inside the box. 2 minutes into the 2nd half saw the visitors equalise when a low cross found Thomas Robinson 6 yards out and he had a simple tap in. With the extra man Comrades took control and dominated possession but Breda worked very hard to restrict their chances and did almost regain the lead on 52 minutes when Fearon's goal bound header was well saved. The visitors kept pressing but on 84 minutes were caught out when Breda's man of the match Fearon broke from the halfway line and played in Tiernan McNicholl who took the ball into the box and chipped over the advancing keeper to give Breda all 3 points.
Bluefin Championship Saturday 01/12/18 Knockbreda 1 - 2 Ballinamallard A somewhat understrength home side struggled in the opening period with possession dominated by the visitor's confident passing game. They did not however threaten home keeper Piaras Toolan who did however make a fine save early on. Breda then grew into the game without creating clear cut chances and it remained scoreless at halftime. Darragh McBrien was a constant thorn in the side of the home team and , on 70 minutes he scored the game's first goal direct from a freekick 25 yards out. Question marks however against the Breda defence as the shot went through the wall. and nestled low in the corner of their net. The game was still evenly balanced but young McBrien created a second goal for the visitors out of nothing with 10 minutes to go. He chased a long diagonal ball and his pace saw him beat his man , go into the box and draw a foul from the covering defender . The spot kick was coolly converted by Richard Clarke. Breda kept going and in added time scored a fine consolation goal by Brendan Bennett who finished well from 20 yards. Next up for Breda 2 away League games starting Tuesday 04/12/18 v Ballyclare Comrades at Dixon Park , Ballyclare ko 7.45pm followed by v Portadown FC at Shamrock Park Saturday 8/12/18 ko 5pm.
Bluefin Championship Saturday 24/11/18 Carrick Rangers 3 - 0 KNOCKBREDA Goals from Caolan Loughran, Michael Smith and Gary Warwick saw Carrick Rangers cruise to a home victory over Knockbreda. Carrick dominated proceedings in the first half with Smith, Craig McMillen and Lloyd Anderson all testing keeper Dean Smyth while, for 'Breda, David Fearon saw an effort saved by Aaron Hogg. However, Rangers managed to find a way through just before the break when Loughran met a Nixon corner at the back post to fire a superbly struck volley beyond Smyth. That pattern from the first half was repeated in the second 45 minutes with Smyth the busier of the two keepers, but dealing with all that was thrown at him. But Carrick eventually doubled their lead six minutes from time when Smith finally got on the scoresheet with a header from a Nixon cross. Then, deep into stoppage time, substitute Gary Warwick completed the scoring with a sidefoot finish from yet another Nixon assist.
Bluefin Championship Tuesday 04/12/18 BALLYCLARE COMRADES 2 - 1 KNOCKBREDA On a cold night Breda travelled to Dixon Park and came under early pressure from the home team whose front two were causing problems. However Breda settled after a few minutes and dominated the first half when they could and should have scored at least 3 goals. The home team had lucky escapes on 9 and 13 minutes when , firstly, Darius Roohi was played in and hit a post from outside the box. A Ryan Newberry freekick some 20 yards out then hit the opposite post with the keeper well beaten. On 18 minutes a well struck dive from the edge of the box by David Fearon was also well saved by the home keeper. Breda had further chances to take the lead but went in 0-0 at halftime. The game changed 6 minutes into the 2nd half when Breda lost possession just in their own half with a quick break leading to a cross and finish for the first goal.A 2nd followed 4 minutes later but Breda kept battling and reduced the arrears after 66 minutes. Whilst Breda applied pressure until the end they could not score again and were very unlucky to lose this game but must take their chances in games.
Bluefin Championship Saturday 08/12/18 Portadown 4 - 3 Knockbreda A late kickoff under the lights at Shamrock Park saw Breda narrowly lose a 7 goal game by the odd goal. Next up for Breda an away League game v Dundela on Saturday 15/12/18 kickoff 3pm.
Bluefin Championship Saturday 22/12/18 KNOCKBREDA 2 - 2 PSNI Breda shaded the opening exchanges in this game but it was the visitors who took the lead on 23 minutes through former Breda player Jake McNeill. The home defence failed to clear a ball from their box and McNeill controlled the ball and from 20 yards fired a great left footed shot past Windrum in the home goal. PSNI keeper Williamson made good saves on 30 and 42 minutes to keep his side ahead at halftime. Breda deservedly equalised on 51 minutes through striker David Fearon who typically held off a defender and from the edge of the box hit a left footed effort high into the net. Breda missed good chances to take the lead before Fearon did so on 82 minutes. Direct from a freekick centrally and 20 yards out he curled a ball round the wall and into the net. Breda were punished for their missed chances on 90 minutes when , following a scramble in their box , McNeill fired in his second goal from close range. Next up for Breda an away League game v H&W Welders on Saturday 29/12/18 kickoff 2pm.
Bluefin Championship Saturday 29/12/18 H&W Welders 1 - 3 Knockbreda Breda started brightly and after his 2 goals last week , Breda’s David Fearon carried on with his good run of form by opening the scoring on 9 minutes when he controlled the ball in the box , turning sharply to fire a left foot shot high into the net from 10 yards. Breda increased their lead on 25 minutes when the ball broke to Jordan Baker on the edge of the box and he slammed a low shot into the corner of the net. The home team fought back missing a great chance on 34 minutes firing over the bar from close in. They did however pull a goal back just before halftime. Breda however regained control in the opening minute of the 2nd half when a penalty was awarded for handball. Fearon drove home the penalty to make it 4 goals in 2 games for the big man who had opportunities to complete his hatrick but a big 3 points for Breda. Next up Irish Cup game v Strabane Athletic at Breda Park Saturday 05/01/19 kick off 1.30pm
